A Colorado-cool breeze to quench the heat of the day; a gentle Colbie warm-up act; a lucky "best-available" online-ticket grab (row 4-center); a perfect sunset that painted the partly cloudy skies with dazzling and changing color; a little Shafer-infused pre-show tailgate action; a respectful, polite, and engaging group of nearby friends and fellow concert goers! The table was set beautifully.
With that setup, I secretly wished that Colony House would bring their A-game - and make the evening one of those Red-Rocks classics that you never forget (Dan Fogelberg, Chicago, Doobie Bros, U2, etc.).
They did.
Only let-down? Colony House's spoken desire for a male democrat who drives a hybrid/electric vehicle (my red-blooded, Chevy pick-up driving, conservative, Colony House-fantasy-world took a serious hit) LOL. Best fan call-out? Colony House asking the crowd "What's the altitude here?" (pant, pant). Best song? The extended rockin'-ass version of "Roses and Moonlight" that ended the main concert (before encore). I was close enough to catch eye-contact, see band-member interplay, and appreciate the details of production from the support crew.
When all was sang and done, I was left wanting more - didn't want the show to end. Colony House is a true performer - best live. They have the stage skills that only the best of the classic-rock world possess. The table was set for a memorable Red Rocks night - Colony House and the band delivered.
